I'm looking for a deal on an 18' enclosed trailer. No rush at this time, waiting for that deal to come along, so if anybody comes across one, let me know. Looking for one with finished interior, quality axles, good condition. Any other options (pitpal, gen, lights, awning, etc.) a plus.

I have an 18' steel deck car hauler.... not enclosed... if you decide to get something different.
I want a 20' trailer for the Jeep and the ATV. Going from a 24' to 18' was to big of a jump. _________________ Become one with nature.....

18' is awfully short!!! Not going to get much more in there than just the car and even that is going to be tight. Are you mostly worried that you don't have enough tow vehicle?
Also, most 18's are considered economy and don't have finished interiors or heavy axles unless they are special order.
Good luck! |

Yes, it's short, but it's all I realy need. And probably a lot less tire blowouts than the bigger trailers. It has to fit in the trailer stall in my shop, I don't want to pay rent for outdoor storage. Overhead cabinets for spare parts/tools, and a flip-up work bench. I'll have 4' from the front of the car to the front wall.
There are trailers out there, I just missed a deal on one last year. 18', completely finished, cabinets, interior/exterior lights, A/C, gen, awning, stored indoors, $5k. By the time I found it, it was sold. Guy used it for his midget car, I would have had to remove the lower L-shaped cabinet, no big deal.

Mark:
I'm trailer shopping too and am looking into 20' enclosed so it has a dovetail and room for some extra tires up front. Not much more then the 18' in price or weight. One thing I repeatedly hear from other trailer owners is to go with heavier rated axles (5,000 pound instead of 3,500 pound) and opt for a torsion suspension instead of leaf springs as it vastly improves towability.

If I were going to park it outside I'd be looking for a 24', which are easy to find. But I want to park it inside, I have a garage stall made for a tall trailer. I want to avoid degrading the tires and oxidizing the exterior, and I mainly want to have immediate access to the trailer since I'll be keeping tools and parts in it. So I am limited to 18'. It will fit a car just fine, and with overhead cabinets and racks I'll be able to store whatever I want.
I'm going to check into a custom-made trailer. The trailer I have now I bought from this guy,
http://exploreus.com/trailershop/trackmaster.htm
I have the Sportsman open trailer with lockbox. He custom-makes enclosed trailers of all sizes, what I want is an 18' V-nose w/ 5000lb axles, internal ramps, and a side door big enough that I can open the car door to get in/out.
I doubt I'll be able to find something like that used, so instead of saving a couple grand and buying a compromise, then putting a bunch of money into it rebuilding the axles/brakes and replacing tires, I figure getting exactly what I want, brand-new, isn't such a bad deal. Of course, I've yet to get a quote....

Mark,
Might be far less expensive to get a 24' used and have Kurt cut it to size. Kurt will modify them but was not interested in building new.
Take 8' off the back and move the rear axle to be the front axle. Kurt likes odd work.............. _________________ Wayne |

Eh, I'm just going to keep my eye out for something used I guess. And keep my eye out for another good trailer fab guy.

Kurt was explaining that the volume trailer sellers get too big of a cost break for him to compete on pricing. He can only compete on labor cost that is not enough in the end.
Maybe call Big Tex and see if they will build you a "2/3" trailer. _________________ Wayne |

Mark, I believe we met at Hallett last weekend (Ryan, 300c SRT-8 went off and broke some stuff). If you find an enclosed trailer, I would be interested in your open trailer if the price is right. _________________ 2007 F-250 FX4 King Ranch TOW VEHICLE

Will do. I have a line on a trailer now, but he doesn't want to sell until he sells the car sitting inside. I told him no rush.
I'll let you know.
Thanks-

Formula Mazda I believe. I haven't seen the car or the trailer yet, when he's ready to sell I'll make the trip.
